The drive
From Dulles, cars take the Dulles Access Road east, then I-66 or the George Washington Parkway into the city. Outside rush hour, downtown DC is about 35–45 minutes away. On weekday mornings heading in, and late afternoons heading out, allow an hour or more.
Inside the Beltway, I-66 has express tolls during weekday rush hours that change with traffic. A good chauffeur picks the fastest route for that moment, and with Velora any tolls show up in your quote at cost, with no markup.
What it costs
With Velora, Dulles to downtown DC is about $246 all-in: 27.5 miles, a $205 fare plus the 20% gratuity. Georgetown is about $228, Arlington $216, Tysons or Reston $150 and McLean $156. Tolls are added at cost, and your exact price is confirmed by text before you ride. Try the instant price estimate for other areas.
Landing on an international flight
Most of Washington's long-haul flights land at Dulles. After landing, passport control and baggage usually take 30–60 minutes, sometimes more at peak arrival times in the afternoon. Your chauffeur follows your flight and is waiting when you come through the doors, so there's no need to call from the immigration line.
Heading to Tysons, Reston or McLean instead?
If your meetings are in Northern Virginia, Dulles is the right airport. Reston is about 15 minutes away, Tysons and McLean about 20–30. See our Reston, Tysons and McLean pages for local routes.
Going to Dulles for a flight
- From downtown DC: leave 2.5–3 hours before an international departure, 2 hours before a domestic one, more on weekday afternoons.
- From Tysons or Reston: 30–45 minutes of drive time is usually enough outside rush hour.
- Early flights: traffic is light before 6 AM, so a 4:30 AM pickup downtown is plenty for most 7 AM departures.
Velora at Dulles
Velora drives to and from Dulles 24/7, including private aviation pickups. Your chauffeur arrives 15 minutes early, tracks your flight and confirms the price by text before you ride. See Dulles airport car service, or compare the three airports in our DCA, Dulles or BWI guide.
